For most of us, the holiday packing routine involves shoving an armful of bikinis, dresses and toiletries into a suitcase, then inventing a new yoga position as we attempt to both sit on said suitcase and zip it up the whole way around.
But when you’re travelling to exotic locations on a monthly basis, you’re bound to pick up a few tricks to speed up the packing process and ensure you pack the things you actually need – and nothing more.
Luckily, Marie Claire Fashion Editor Lucia Debieux has revealed her top tips for packing like a pro. Here are a few of the highlights:
1. Invest in a great overnight bag
This is the secret to bagging an upgrade on your flight, says Lucia. She advises to go with a “a chic understated style, whether it’s a case or a holdall in a block colour”.
2. Pack shoes first
Always start by packing your shoes on the bottom of the case, then fill in any caps with rolled up belts, jewellery and lingerie.
3. Don’t fold clothes
If you’re using a holdall, roll your clothes. If it’s a suitcase, lay clothes flat. Surprisingly, this will help you to avoid creases and fit more in!
4. Don’t pack towels
Ever. They will be available at your hotel anyway, but if you’re worried about having something to lie on the beach, pack a lightweight sarong.
5. Choose a colour palate
If you stick to a colour palette of no more than three shades, you’ll find that all of your holiday wardrobe will work together, Lucia says. You can always add another shade or tone with your accessories.
